How To

A lot of people wonder how they can help their guests have a memorable experience. Most people who throw an event, whether that is a reception, a get together with friends, or a birthday party, you want your guests to leave happy and grateful that they took time out of their day to come to your event. Some think of this as a lot of pressure put on them to make their event the very best, but it shouldn’t be thought of in that way. It really is a lot more simple to help them have that memorable experience. It comes down to three basic things.

  1. Get to know your guests, their likes and their dislikes.
  2. Have a game plan.
  3. Be social and out going.

When you push yourself outside of your comfort zone and you introduce people to others at your event, or you have a back up plan in case things start to get awkward and quiet down, you can be that person that makes everyone else feel happy and leave feeling good about themselves. When you get to know your guests before the event, it gives yourself a good idea as to what games or activities should be thrown at the party. For example, if you talk to four people who will be attending your party and three out of the four enjoying playing get to know you games at get togethers, than you can assume that most people will enjoy doing that. You are not going to be able to please all of your guests, but at least you can get a better idea as to what you can do to please most of your guests.

When you have a game plan, things always turn out smoother than expected. The reason I mention having a game plan is because sometimes people get tired of having small conversations with people they don’t know and they will want to do something different after a while of just talking. So if you think up of some ice breakers, or games to start up when people stop talking than you can save the guests from having an awkward experience. So with your game plan you can be less stressed about worrying about what you can do if people are bored, you can just do what you have as your back up plan. Here are some ideas for a back up plan: a game(maybe get to know you or a card game), a gift exchange(this has to be set up before, like white elephant), or play music. Having music in the background can always help with the awkward silence that may or may not happen.

Most importantly make sure to social. You want everyone to leave feeling loved and cared for. If you are constantly trying to make everyone feel welcome in your home or at your event, they will want to come to the next one. Even if it is kind of out of your comfort zone, try your best to be social and talk to everyone.
